Three people have died and several are missing due to flooding caused by heavy rains in the Emilia-Romagna region in northern Italy. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the Italian authorities.
About five thousand residents of flood-affected areas have already been evacuated and transferred to some sports centers. Local authorities are asking not to approach the rivers in the coming days and advise everyone who lives in areas close to watercourses to leave their homes.
“The rain has not stopped yet, it will continue for several more hours. We are facing a very, very difficult situation,” said Titti Postiglione, deputy head of the Civil Protection Agency, quoted by the news agency.
The bodies were found in the cities of Forlì, Cesena and Cesenatico.
This is the second time that the Emilia-Romagna region has been affected by bad weather. The heavy rains followed months of intense drought that rendered the land unable to absorb water and exacerbated the flood scenario.
There will be more transactions this Wednesday. Schools and rail links are closed until the situation improves.
