A 17-year-old boy has confessed to killing his entire family on Saturday night in Paderno Dugnano, near Milan, Italy. The perpetrator of the crime that shocked the country said he felt “bad” when questioned.
It was the young man who called 911 early Sunday morning and claimed he had killed his father after killing his mother and brother. He said he woke up to the screams of his mother and brother and found his father next to the bodies.
However, he eventually told the authorities the true version of events: he was the one who killed his entire family. The young man showed no signs of fighting with his father.
According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the killings took place at around 1 a.m.
The 17-year-old was formally placed under investigation by Milan’s juvenile prosecutor’s office on Sunday afternoon.
The Carabinieri, who are investigating the triple murder under the direction of the Monza prosecutor’s office and the Milan prosecutor’s juvenile unit, confirmed that all four family members had celebrated their father’s birthday before the crime. “Nothing special happened on Saturday,” the young man said during interrogation. “But I’ve been thinking about it for some time,” he said, referring to the family’s death.
Friends of the family and Paderno Dugnano Mayor Anna Varisco expressed their shock at the news of the triple murder. “It was a normal, quiet family, not monitored by social services and described by everyone as having no problems,” Anna Varisco told ANSA.
The investigation and autopsy will be key to understanding what happened. The young man’s personality, his psychological and psychiatric health, and the electronic devices used by his family will be examined. So far, one of the only clues prosecutors say they have found is the presence of “very sad music.”
