In the first three months of this year alone, the Armed Forces lost 604 troops (7 per day) compared to the existing staff at the end of 2022, according to figures released this Wednesday by the Armed Forces Officers Association (AOFA). At this rate, about 2,500 soldiers will leave this year.
According to the same source, 23,692 military personnel were on alert as of March 31, while the reduction in personnel over the same period amounted to 1,923 military personnel. “Over the past 12 months, the Armed Forces have lost 7.5% of their global workforce,” AOFA denounces.
Since 2011, the Armed Forces have lost 10,822 military personnel, which is 31.36% less than their personnel. “This leads to the conclusion that successive governments have made very wrong political choices,” the AOFA said in a statement.
In the same document, whose data is given as a source of the General Directorate of Administration and Civil Service, since 2011, the GNR, SEF and the municipal police are the only security forces and services that have increased their staff by 187, respectively, Elements 196 and 305 are operational 23 086 (GNR), 952 (SEF) and 1577 (municipal police). The Judicial Police (2232 people) have lost 86 people since 2011, the PSP (20637 people) – less than 1297 people, and the prison guards (4160 people) – 152 people.
