Câmara de Lagoa was the target of a cyberattack over the weekend and continues without a computer system, affecting public services, the Faro County Municipality said this Wednesday.
“The municipality of Lagoa was the target of a cyberattack last weekend that brought down the entire computer system, a situation that continues to this day,” the Algarve Chamber said in a statement.
According to Câmara de Lagoa, the cyberattack began on Saturday afternoon and “was completed in the early hours of last Sunday” as “more than 600 megabytes of documents belonging to the municipality were stolen and the entire system was shut down.”
In the note, the municipality indicates that the Judicial Police, in “cooperation with their international counterparts,” has already launched an investigation and is taking every step to identify “the author or authors of this crime.”
Camara de Lagoa ensures that the teams of the municipality make an effort to “try to restore the internal system” with the priorities of “restoring the civil service” in all its areas, as well as the accounting and financial services of the municipality. “Guarantee the payment of wages to employees.”
