US Air Force blocks access to sensitive data after information leak

On Monday, the US Air Force said it was tightening controls on access to sensitive information after it emerged that young military officer Jack Teixeira’s superiors had already raised concerns about his handling of sensitive data.

Secretary Frank Kendall told reporters that the Air Force needed to increase enforcement of rules governing access to classified information, focusing on the “long-standing principle” that the military “cannot view anything classified unless there is a legal basis to do so.”

“The fact that someone has a certain level of authority does not mean that they have access to all the material at that level. We are reviewing some practices related to this,” the Minister of the Air Force said, adding that he did not believe that this rule was applied with the necessary force.
