The Tax and Customs Authority warned on Tuesday about the existence of fraudulent emails being sent to taxpayers with links to supposed responses from the e-balcão service, which aims to steal personal data.
“HMRC is aware that some taxpayers have been receiving emails purporting to be from AT asking them to click on links provided,” AT said in a notice published on the Financial Portal, warning taxpayers to delete the emails immediately without even clicking on the links.
The tax authorities share one such message, in which the taxpayer is informed that his request for “information registered in the e-balcao service has already been resolved” and that the answer is available by opening the specified link, which is fraudulent.
As with previous alerts, AT stresses that these “messages are bogus and should be ignored” and that “their purpose is to convince the recipient to access malicious pages by clicking on suggested links,” which should never be done.
