The PSP Algarve Seguro program will be extended to Grand Porto, Grand Lisbon and the beaches with the most wealth, announced on Monday in Vila Nova de Gaia by Interior Minister José Luis Carneiro.
“We are about to launch for the first time for Lisbon, Porto and the most crowded beaches special safety and proximity programs, which are already part of our Comprehensive Urban Safety Strategy, and these plans will be developed in a similar way. to the Algarve Seguro program,” José Luis Carneiro told reporters on Monday in Vila Nova de Gaia, in the Porto area.
The Minister spoke at the Avintes Parish Council on the sidelines of the signing of an inter-administrative agreement on the re-qualification of the local territorial post of the GNR and described the Algarve security program as “a good experience of cooperation between all security forces and services.” .
“Therefore, we are going to extend this experience to other regions of the country: Greater Porto, Greater Lisbon, as well as beaches that have a lot of traffic, namely now with parties at the end of the day, in the late afternoon, which is the reason for the influx of a large number of visitors” , he reasoned, given that sometimes “there are behaviors and attitudes that require special attention from the security forces.”
When asked about the start date of the program in new regions, José Luis Carneiro replied that he would like the program to be introduced in mid-June.
“We wanted to see if they were able, after the launch of the Algarve Seguro program, which will take place in mid-June, we could immediately begin the presentation of these programs in the Porto metropolitan area. [AMP] and also in Lisbon, and then with the Safe Beaches program, he said.
José Luis Carneiro cited the case of Matosinhos (Matosinhos area) as an example, Mayor Luisa Salgueiro has already informed the Ministry of the Interior that Matosinhos beach is one of those “that had an extraordinary influx of people’s traffic, who use the subway, who walk these parties.”
“It is also necessary to start regulating these demonstrations so that they are not only safe for those who are in these places, but also in terms of perceptions, that is, perceptions about the safety of the people themselves,” the minister added. . . .
