Former finance minister heard before TAP panel of inquiry today

Former Finance Minister Miguel Cruz will be heard Tuesday in a commission of inquiry by TAP, set up following a disputed compensation to Alexandra Reis over political tutelage of airline management.

Miguel Cruz was secretary of state of the treasury under TAP’s financial wing from June 2020 to March 2022, a position he assumed after stepping down as president of Parpública, a company that manages state-owned stakes such as those in an airline.

The ex-governor was short-lived when, along with then finance ministers Joao Leão and infrastructure and housing ministers Pedro Nuno Santos, the return of the airline to state control was announced at a press conference after the difficulties caused by the covid-19 pandemic and after five years private management.

Also during Miguel Cruz’s mandate, a TAP restructuring plan was prepared and approved, which included layoffs of employees and pay cuts that are still in place.

Miguel Cruz was still Secretary of State for the Treasury when the former Administrator Alexandra Reis left TAP in February 2022 with half a million euros in compensation, agreed on the basis of the Commercial Companies Code, rather than the Statute of the Public Administrator, which has been applicable to TAP since she returned to State control.

Alexandra Reis, after serving as President of NAV Portugal – Navegação Aérea, was appointed Secretary of State for the Treasury, a position she held from 2 December 2022 to 4 January 2023 after being fired by Minister Fernando Medina following a disputed compensation. .

Before the hearing of Miguel Cruz, which is scheduled for 17:00, the former Minister of Planning and Infrastructure, Pedro Marques, is also being heard in Parliament, in the Commission for the Economy, Public Works, Planning and Housing, from 14:00, at the request of the OSChS on the situation of TAR in period 2015-2023

Initially, a hearing for former Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications Sergio Monteiro was scheduled for this Tuesday and a hearing for Miguel Cruz for June 1, after which the exchange was made and Sergio Monteiro is due to be heard on Thursday. .
