The areas of Vila Real, Bragança, Viseu and Guarda are under an orange warning on Tuesday due to the forecast for thunderstorms and possible hail, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
Four areas are under an orange alert from 3:37 pm to 9:00 pm due to the forecast for frequent and concentrated hailstorms, according to the IPMA statement.
On the rest of the mainland, four areas are under yellow warning (Braga, Castelo Branco, Porto, Viana do Castelo) with favorable conditions for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and occasional hail.
An orange alert is issued by IPMA when there is a meteorological situation of moderate to high risk.
A yellow alert is issued whenever a risk situation arises for certain weather dependent activities.
