Christopher de Beek, a former BCP vice president, passed away at dawn this Thursday at the age of 77, former bank administrator Filipe Pinhal told Lusa.
The wake will take place today at 5:30 pm at the Basilica da Estrela in Lisbon, and the funeral will take place on Friday, according to Servilus.
Mass is scheduled for Friday at 13:00, and the funeral will take place at 14:00.
Christopher de Beek “was ill for a while,” the same source added.
The death of Christopher de Beck, who was a member of the BCP leadership under Jorge Jardim Goncalves, is known on the day of the death of businessman Manuel Fino, a shareholder of the same bank.
Manuel Fino was one of the protagonists of the war for control of power in the BCP, being an ally of Paulo Teixeira Pinto, who was the bank’s executive president and was incompatible with founder Jardim Gonçalves.
Christopher de Beek, born in March 1946, joined the BCP in 1985 when the institution was being established, joining its founders.
According to the information gathered, Beck was from Banco Português do Atlântico (BPA), as was BCP founder Jardim Gonçalves.
Three years later, he becomes the head of BCP, an institution that was considered disruptive at the time, and in the year that Expo’98 begins, he takes the position of Vice President of BCP, where he played an important role in internationalization and is associated with operations in Greece, Poland and Romania.
The manager was at BCP when shareholders, with Jardim Gonçalves on one side and Paulo Teixeira Pinto on the other, broke out in a dispute that ended in court with allegations of market manipulation.
On May 2, 2014, when Jardim Gonçalves was found guilty of market manipulation, Christopher de Beek was acquitted of all charges by the Ministry of Public Administration.
“From my point of view, justice has triumphed,” the former vice-president of the BHP, the only one of the four defendants in this process, who was fully acquitted in a criminal trial, told reporters.
After reading the verdict, Christopher de Beek’s face showed a relief that did not want to talk about the condemnation of his former colleagues.
