According to the latest balance sheet, at least 233 people were killed and 900 injured in a collision between two trains in Balasore, India.
The accident, according to international news agencies, occurred at 19:20 local time this Friday (13:50 Lisbon time) near a station in the village of Bahanaga, Odisha, 1600 km northeast of the capital Nova Delhi.
According to the agency Reutersone of the trains derailed and crashed hard into another.
Operations are continuing on the ground, and “all possible assistance is being provided to the victims,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
The footage broadcast by TV channels shows completely destroyed cars and piles of metal at the site of the tragedy.
It is believed that there are more victims. This is the deadliest railway accident in India in the last ten years.
