Fourteen people were reported killed and 16 injured after a bus carrying around 40 Indian pilgrims crashed on a highway in Nepal on Friday and fell into a river. Reuters.
The bus turned off the highway and headed towards a fast-flowing river, stopping on a rocky bank.
The top of the bus was torn off, but the debris did not fall into the Marsyangdy River.
Anunaja Jha, district magistrate of Maharajganj in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, confirmed the death toll and said investigations were underway by Nepal police deployed in the region.
Indian authorities are also investigating the crash and trying to establish whether any of its citizens were killed or injured in the accident.
