Defendant suspected of raping Jessica claims to have seen Jessica at her parents’ home about a month before she died

court hearing of the five people accused of being involved in the murder of Jessica, a three-year-old girl killed last June, has already begun.

The meeting was moved to Tuesday at 11:00 am due to a strike by court officials, as it was supposed to start at 9:15 am on Monday.

Among the accused are Ines Sanchez, the girl’s mother, Tita, Jessica’s nanny, Justo and Esmeralda, Tita’s husband and daughter, respectively.

Jessica’s father, Alexandrino Biscay, spoke to reporters upon arrival at court and assured them that the mother was “the main culprit”.

At a meeting on Monday, Tita Justo’s husband said that he had learned about the girl’s death from his wife and daughter. He also ensured that everything Ines said was a lie and contradicted the version given by Jessica’s mother.

The trial session ends.

The new sessions will take place on June 12 at 2:30 pm, where Jessica’s father will be heard, and on June 15, all day.

16:28 | 06/06

Andrea Ferreira, Tita’s neighbor, is the first witness to be heard.

“On the 20th, Tita went to ask me for bleach. It was 7 pm and all that. I didn’t have bleach because I don’t use bleach. I have known Tita, Justo and Esmeralda for five years,” he begins. speaking.

“Did you ever know about the practice of witchcraft?” the lawyers ask. “No. It was a surprise,” the witness replies.

The lawyers ask if Eduardo has ever been hostile towards the witness. Andrea Ferreira denies this.

“Did you ever realize that the police came to the house because of Eduardo?” they ask her.

Andrea Ferreira says that on June 18 last year, two days before Jessica’s death, Justo told her that Tita and Esmeralda were in Leiria. The conversation took place in the afternoon.

Lawyers question Jessica’s mother’s words when Andrea went to offer condolences for the girl’s death. “She didn’t tell me anything. I asked her, but she didn’t say anything. She didn’t even cry,” the witness replies.

The judge requested minimal services to conduct the trial, but later cited a shortage of courtrooms.

The bailiffs’ union will sue the judge for questioning the right to strike.

Recall that this Tuesday and Monday the trial started 2 hours late due to the strike of the court workers, and on Monday afternoon the second part of the trial was postponed.

15:04 | 06/06

At the beginning of the court session in the afternoon, after a break, there are witnesses who do not want to testify, fearing reprisals.

The judge decided that, given the issue at hand, which caused a great deal of commotion, the abstractly applicable penalties, and the reaction of the witnesses reported, it was conceivable that the witnesses might be frightened.

The court granted publicity to the trial, but may exclude publicity if the testimony is not spontaneous and conditional.

The team is postponing.

Eduardo’s lawyer, Paulo Camõesas, is now questioning a client. “Where did you buy hashish?” he asks. “In Bela Vista,” the defendant replies.

“Were you going to Leiria?” they ask him. Edward denies this.

The defendant is asked if he has ever spoken to Alexandrino and Inez, Jessica’s parents, and Eduardo says he has not.

“What implications does this case have for your life?” the lawyer asks. “I was left without a job. They look at me on the street. They began to accuse me of such a crime. It was very painful. Even for my children, at school,” the defendant laments.

“It’s a gypsy,” says the lawyer. “How is the accusation of rape of a minor perceived in society?” he asks. The judge interrupts and says that he does not want to talk about it: “We are judging a person.” Eduardo replies that “it was difficult.” “They look at me like a monster,” he admits.

“I saw nothing and did nothing. I have three children. I would never do that and would not allow a child to be harmed in front of me,” he says.

13:24 | 06/06

The prosecutor takes the floor to ask the defendant a question: “After returning from Spain, since you offered the bed to your parents, were you not curious to go and see what happened?” Edward says no.

The defendant is being asked if he saw Jessica at her parents’ house in April and May 2022. Eduardo confirms, but elaborates, that at the time he did not realize that the girl was passing by and was going to spend the night in the house.

What was your parents’ life like? Did they spend the day at home? Hours?” the judge asks. “My mother and sister always walked down the street. And my father too, but not together,” Eduardo replies.

The judge confronts Eduardo and Justo with scissors and pliers, items found in Justo’s coat pocket. None of them recognize them.

“Did your sister and niece always live at your parents’ house?” the judge asks. The defendant confirms.

Justo’s lawyer starts asking, “Have you ever seen your father with his mother, sister and mother of Jessica?” “No. I have never seen them together,” Eduardo replies. “Did your father lead a separate life?” the lawyer asks. Eduardo says “yes” and informs them that they are not going out together.

“Have your children ever been left in the care of their father in his house?” Justo’s lawyer asks. The defendant says yes. Eduardo says that this did not happen to his mother. “My kids don’t get along so well with their mom. And in terms of responsibility, I trusted my father more, ”admits Eduardo. “My mother was more wrong,” he says.

The judge asks examples: “What did she do?” “Grandfather played with them, took them to the park, to school,” the defendant replies.

12:51 | 06/06

Eduardo continues to be interrogated and reveals that Jessica’s mother, Inez, and her mother “were friends”. “I know her face,” he says.

“Ines was also a friend of my mother,” he says.

The assistant referee asks, “Was it usual to see them together?” Eduardo confirms and says that he most often witnessed these moments on the street, as well as in his mother’s house.

Regarding the relationship between Jessica’s mother and the girl’s nanny, Eduardo says that “they were friends. They were talking”. The same thing happened to Esmeralda, the sister of the defendant.

“Did you see Inez at her parents’ house on the 19th or 20th?” the judge asks. The son of Jessica’s nanny denies this.

The defendant is asked if he ever saw his father “possessing ‘little balls'” and he again answers “no”.

Eduardo also claims that when he saw Jessica at his mother’s house, he didn’t know she was Ines’ daughter.

“When you saw Ines with her mother and sister, did you ever see her with a minor?” the judge asks. Edward denies this.

The judge shows the defendant some of the items seized by the court, showing him the “eggs”.

12:19 | 06/06

Eduardo continues to be heard in court. He claims to use hashish but never sold it.

“When PJ went to his parents’ house, it was actually you who opened the door, did you notice anything out of the ordinary,” the judge asks.

“I didn’t notice,” he says.

Eduardo says he doesn’t work now, but at the time he worked in ubereats, in construction and as a house painter.

The woman sells the clothes herself, says Eduardo.

“How much do you earn?” the judge asks.

“500/600 euros, it varies,” says Eduardo.

“Were you surprised when you found out about this case?” the judge asks.

“I was shocked. I never thought that something like this could happen, ”he assures.

Eduardo explains his earnings. He claims to have spent 750 euros on vacation and that his monthly expenses are around 600/700 euros.

Eduardo is now being interrogated by an assistant judge.

“In some part of your house, windows, for example, did you see your mother, sister or niece on the 19th or 20th,” the judge asks.

“On the 19th, I saw them in the living room. I saw them from the street,” he says.

The assistant referee asks if Eduardo spoke to his mother, to which he replies that the mother only spoke to her grandson, it was 15/4 days.

“Did you notice someone arriving this afternoon? We are talking about a wooden staircase, there is a sound … ”, the judge asks.

“I didn’t hear anyone,” he says. [Segundo a acusação Inês, a mãe de Jéssica, esteve lá neste dia]

“Who were the mother and father of the girl, I learned only from the news,” admits Eduardo.

Eduardo claims to know Alexandrino Biscay. [pai de Jéssica] visually.”

“Is it true that, in terms of consumption, he consumed with Alexandrino,” he asks.

“Never,” says Eduardo.

Back to June 18th. “When he arrived, he went to visit his parents,” Judge Eduardo asks.

“I arrived around nine. I went up the stairs. The father greeted my children, I talked to him for a bit and went home to sleep,” Eduardo replies.

“And on the 19th,” the judge asks.

“I woke up around 10 am. I went shopping with my wife and kids and then came back,” he assures.

“But he didn’t talk to his mother, since he returned from vacation,” the judge asks.

“I just said hello to him when I arrived,” he says.

Eduardo confesses that he smokes. When asked about the cigarette butts found on the stairs, he says he does not know how to clarify [recorde-se que Jéssica tinha queimaduras na cara].

Eduardo says he offered his father a bed two days before leaving for Spain. He bought a new bed and gave the one he had to his father.

“How do you usually put out cigarettes?” the judge asks.

“I usually don’t do laundry on the floor. I usually wash in an ashtray,” says Eduardo.

“He remembers putting out cigarettes on the floor in his father’s house,” the judge continues.

“I am not in the habit of doing this. I usually throw it out the window or in the ashtray,” says Eduardo.

The judge asks Eduardo if he has seen Jessica since his arrival from Spain, to which the defendant replies that he has not.

He also claims to have gone shopping with his children on the 19th. [recorde-se que Jéssica morre a dia 20]

“What was your daily routine in those days? We went shopping. And then they stayed at home to watch movies. The next day, my children already had classes,” he guarantees.

When asked if he had heard any sounds from the children, the defendant replied “no”.

Trial session starts

The defendant, suspected of raping Jessica, is already appearing in court.

The rest of the defendants were removed from Eduardo’s testimony room, with the exception of Justo, because he spoke yesterday.

“I was out of the country,” the judge asks, to which Eduardo replies, “Yes, I returned on the 18th.”

Eduardo assures that one and a half to two months ago he saw the child there (in the parents’ house).

“I was walking down the stairs of the building, my mother opened the door and I saw the child. She told me that the girl’s mother has to work and that she needs to stay there,” he guarantees.

When asked by the judge if he knows how many days the girl spent in her parents’ house, Eduardo replies that he does not know.

Where was the child when you saw her?
