According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), eleven areas on the mainland will be issued a yellow warning on Thursday due to the forecast for occasional heavy downpours that could be accompanied by hail and thunderstorms.
This Wednesday, Bragança and Vila Real will be under yellow warning from 18:00 to 00:00 on Thursday and again from 12:00 to 21:00 on Thursday.
The areas of Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under yellow warning from 12:00 to 21:00 on Thursday.
IPMA also issued a Yellow Warning for the highlands of Madeira Island due to strong southwesterly winds gusting up to 95 kilometers per hour from 12:00 to 18:00 this Wednesday.
A yellow warning, the third highest on the scale, is issued for “risk situations for certain weather dependent actions”.
