Father Joaquim Ventura, 94, died this Wednesday after a car collided with a truck carrying stone blocks on the EN 356 in Vale de Ourén in Batalha. The priest was the only passenger in the car.
The alarm was raised at 10:13 a.m. and 15 operators and seven fire trucks from Batalha, GNR, INEM and the ambulance and resuscitation team of the Hospital of Santo André in Leiria were mobilized and pronounced dead on the spot.
Traffic was banned for two hours, resuming around 12 noon.
Born in Juncal, Porto de Mós, Joaquim Ventura was a priest well known to the people of the region for his commitment to public affairs and his 70 years of ministry.
