The court has been evacuated ahead of a trial for the murder of a former Japanese prime minister. Suspicious object detected

The Japanese court that was supposed to hold the trial of the alleged killer of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was evacuated on Monday after a suspicious item was found, local media reported.

Tetsuya Yamagami was due to appear in court in Nara, western Japan, this afternoon as part of a preliminary hearing for the murder of the former leader last July, when he was gunned down in the street while on the campaign trail. .

The venue was evacuated after an “unidentified bag” arrived at the courthouse, state broadcaster NHK said, citing police sources. Similar information was reported by other Japanese media.
