Fenprof says there are thousands of second-year assessments left to complete.

The National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) reports that thousands of 2nd year students failed their Portuguese assessment test this Thursday due to a teacher strike that was repeated on Tuesday.

Fenprof, which is part of a platform of nine trade unions calling for a strike on comparative tests, said in a statement that the affiliation is “a show of rejection of education policy and a demand for respect.”

Without stating the number of tests that did not take place due to the strike, the federation lists 59 schools in which the shutdown was felt, noting that in some, such as the Sinfaish, Ilhavu and Maceira groups, not a single student passed the Portuguese and Teaching Test Intermediate.

At other schools, the strike prevented most sophomores from taking the test.

“The lack of effective negotiations and the fact that adequate measures are not being taken to address the underlying issues affecting teachers is the basis for the need for teachers to fight and their commitment to these strikes,” writes Fenprof.

Teacher representatives also believe that this is also a reaction to the lack of reaction of the Ministry of Education on issues such as working conditions and working hours, occupational attrition.

In addition to the union platform, the Union of All Educational Professionals also called for a test strike strike this Thursday, both without the implementation of minimum services.

This Thursday marked the debut of Year 2 students in digital assessment tests, which were rolled out to all schools this year. The measure was challenged by teachers, directors and parents, who believe that children do not yet have enough independence for such a format.

Speaking to Lusa, the president of the National Association of Group and Public School Principals was positive about the first day despite the strikes, saying students “were prepared” and “get along well” with digital.

However, he argues that the topic is worth discussing in the future “to see if we should go down this path next year, or if we should go back to paper and pen tests” in the 2nd cycle.

On the other hand, he referred to the fact that there were no problems with the functioning of the platform through which the tests are conducted, unlike what happened in the 8th grade Information and Communication Technology tests, but the failure of the school network again became embarrassing .

On Tuesday, Cycle 2 students will again be assessed in math and ecology, and strikes are also scheduled for that day.
