The Prosecutor’s Office (MP) petitioned the President of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal to bring to trial the accused of committing the crime of persecution in the completed form and another crime of coercion in the form of attempt.
The MP published on his website on Monday that “on the basis of the accusation in April 2022, it was made public that the victim, as president of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal, reported to the Information System of the Portuguese Republic (SIRP) that some non-governmental organizations were operating in Portugal as Ukrainian when they would have connections with the Russian embassy.”
After these statements, the deputy continues, the defendant called the victim on April 18, “threatening him with death if he does not remain silent and leave Portugal.”
The indictment also states that between April and September 2022, the defendant, in addition to making phone calls, sent written messages and videos to induce fear and anxiety in the victim.”
The investigation was led by the Department of Investigations and Criminal Affairs (DIAP) in Lisbon.
On August 2, 2022, the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal (AUP) sent a letter to the Secretary General of the SIRP, Graça Mira Gomes, condemning the existence in Portugal of non-governmental organizations, allegedly Ukrainian, but associated with Russia. .
