The Public Security Police (PSP) is investigating early Sunday morning attacks near the Mandarim nightclub in the city of Leiria, images of which have been circulating on social media, it was announced on Monday.
The PSP said in a statement that at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, police presence was requested “due to aggression between security guards and patrons” of the establishment.
“After the arrival of the police, there was no longer any situation of aggression, but, nevertheless, some unrest among the people present remained,” the PSP said in a statement, explaining that “the victims and witnesses of the incident were identified, no longer in the place of the suspected attacks.” .
The PSP adds that “the necessary investigative actions are already being developed to identify the attackers.”
In the same statement, PSP explains that on the same day, “videos were found to be circulating on social media where the aggression could be viewed, allowing more information to be added to the process.”
“It should be noted that part of the street where the attacks took place is under the protection of a video surveillance system. [videovigilância] from the city of Leiria, which proved to be a great help in supporting the activities of the police on the ground,” he notes.
The statement also guarantees that these security forces are “paying special attention and increasing patrols in nightclub areas in order to maintain a sense of security among the population”, expressing gratitude to those who have “additional information or video footage of events.” which he sends to the PSP in Leiria.
In the video that Lusa had access to, two people can be seen lying on the ground, attacked on a public road near the establishment.
