More than 150,000 signatures were received at the Supreme Electoral Court (STE) on Tuesday on a petition called “Jair’s time has come” that intends to ask judges to strip former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro of the right to vote for the next eight years.
“This is the first opportunity for a former president to be held accountable,” Nossas coordinator and one of those responsible for the petition, Luciana Travassos, said, referring to the start of the trial on Thursday at TSE.
At a press conference at the Chamber of Deputies in Brasilia, a few meters from the TSE, organized by more than 20 civil society organizations, Samia Bonfim, MP from the Party of Socialism and Freedom (Psol), spoke about the importance of the petition. , which demonstrates “popular support” to the judges.
