Chega President Andre Ventura on Tuesday questioned the government over the dismissal of Diogo Aires de Campos, director of the obstetrics and gynecology department at Santa Maria Hospital, accusing the government of trying to silence critics.
At a press conference at party headquarters, Andre Ventura considered that the director of the obstetrics and gynecology department in Santa Maria had been relieved of his duties “for questioning the process of restructuring the hospital” and announced that he had applied to the Ministry of Health asking for clarification on this process.
“At the slightest criticism, issue or technical interrogation, those responsible are removed, rehabilitated, silenced and censored,” he said.
Ventura considered it a “worrisome sign” that “anyone who questions a poorly planned, poorly planned restructuring process can be immediately rehabilitated.”
According to a memo from the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte (CHLN) released on Monday, the management of the Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine Department took positions that “repeatedly called into question the working design and collaboration in the process with the San Francisco Xavier Hospital during the works of the new maternity hospital in HSM. [Hospital Santa Maria]”.
At that press conference, the President of Chega also raised the issue of the commission of inquiry on TAP and stated that this should have consequences, echoing the resignation of Infrastructure Minister João Galamba, which he classified as “dead weight”. and the change of financial administrator Goncalo Pires.
André Ventura also defended that “government needs to be reconstructed” and offered to resign Finance Minister Fernando Medina and Deputy Secretary of State to Prime Minister António Mendons Mendez.
For Ventura, the “merit” of this parliamentary inquiry “was to understand the degree of informality, licentiousness, filth and confusion in which Portuguese state-owned companies live in the exchange of services between the political state and the technical or administrative state.”
