The summer solstice starts at 15:58 this Wednesday (Lisbon time) and ends on September 23 with the onset of autumn.
IPMA forecasts for this first day of summer refer to periods of very cloudy skies, gradually becoming slightly cloudy in the morning.
The forecast also points to showers until the end of the morning, which could continue on land until the end of the day and are unlikely in Baixo Alentejo and the Algarve, as well as the possibility of thunderstorms on land in the afternoon.
Light to moderate northerly winds are also forecast, turning to the northwest in the afternoon, strong in places in the highlands in the center and south, and a slight drop in temperatures inland.
The minimum temperatures on the continent will range from 11 degrees Celsius (in Guarda and Viseu) to 14 (in Aveiro and Faro), and the maximum – from 19 (in Guarda) to 28 degrees (in Beja).
From Thursday, forecasts point to hot and dry weather due to the action of an “anticyclonic ridge between the Bay of Biscay and the Madeira archipelago, which will cause a circulation that will bring air mass from North Africa.
