The Republican National Guard (NR), which uncovered more than 130 violations on Wednesday in an operation to inspect and control goods across the country to prevent tax fraud, announced this Thursday the use of military force.
The GNR statement explained that the operation, called “Tribute II”, was limited to the verification of shipping documents and the invoicing of goods subject to special consumption taxes (IEC).
“Tribute II” had the main “being on the main axes of the national road.”
GNR checked the tobacco tax (IT), the tax on alcohol and alcoholic beverages (IABA) and the value added tax (VAT), as well as the condition of foreign-registered vehicles in circulation in the country.
In total, 565 vehicles were inspected and 133 protocols on administrative offenses were drawn up.
The police authority compiled 124 records on the regime of goods in circulation, namely, on the absence or omission of transport documents, 8 on the fact of the absence of a mandatory periodic inspection, and 1 on the tax on petroleum products.
The inspection operation was reinforced by the territorial commands of the Azores, Madeira, Coimbra, Lisbon, Évora and Faro.
GNR adds that, “realizing its deterrent and preventive effect, it will continue and intensify this type of operation in the context of combating the parallel economy and the practice of fraud and tax evasion.”
