Pope Francis asked this Sunday to pray “for peace”, especially for the Ukrainian people, and not to neglect “other wars, which, unfortunately, are often forgotten.”
“Dear brothers and sisters, let’s not get tired of praying for peace this summer, especially for the Ukrainian people who have suffered so much,” the Pope pleaded with the faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican during the Sunday Angelus prayer.
In his speech, he added another request: “Let’s not neglect other wars, which, unfortunately, are often forgotten, and the many conflicts and clashes that stain many places on earth with blood. There are so many wars today.”
Francis urged people to be interested in “what is going on” in the world.
“Let’s help those who are suffering and praying, because prayer is a force that protects and maintains the world,” he said.
During the prayer, the head of the Catholic Church also invited believers to reflect on how many conflicts can be resolved by “listening to others, with a sincere desire to understand each other.”
Just this week, the Pope’s envoy, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, arrived in Moscow, the Russian capital, to try to mediate a war in Ukraine, a country invaded by Russian soldiers, in an offensive launched on February 24, 2022. .
The Vatican did not appreciate the results of the visit of Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, who will soon meet with the pontiff “in order to take new steps, both in the humanitarian sphere and in search of ways to peace”, and also comment on his visit to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, which took place three weeks ago.
