for what cm As it turned out, the cause of the incident was the explosion of a fire extinguisher in the hold of the aircraft.
Operations at the Madeira airport have already returned to normal, ANA Aeroportos said.
In a note sent to Lusa, ANA Aeroportos said that a Ryanair flight to Lisbon, scheduled for this afternoon, did not continue its journey “due to technical problems.”
According to a source at ANA Aeroportos responsible for managing Madeira’s Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport (along with nine other airports in Portugal), air traffic was suspended for “several minutes” with no cancellations or departures.
The situation on the Ryanair flight forced passengers to disembark, the same source said.
A technical problem, the nature of which Lusa could not confirm, forced firefighters to intervene.
Lusa contacted Barbara Fernandez of the Madeira Regional Civil Protection Service, who confirmed the incident and indicated that only the airport’s own fire department was monitoring the situation.
“If there was no need to use more funds, then this is because we managed to resolve the situation with funds on the spot,” he said.
