Fines for non-compliance with toll payment are now limited to five times the value of the relevant fare, but not less than 25 euros, in accordance with the law of the Assembly of the Republic.
According to the diploma published on Tuesday in Diário da República, “the offenses provided for by this law are punishable by a fine of a minimum amount corresponding to five times the value of the relevant toll, but not less than 25 (EUR) , and a maximum amount corresponding to two times the minimum fine. , subject to the maximum limits provided for in the General Regime of Tax Offenses.”
This law amends another diploma from 2006, which, in turn, has been amended several times. In its last wording, it established that “the offenses provided for by this law are punishable by a fine of a minimum amount corresponding to 7.5 times the value of the relevant fare, but not less than 25 (EUR) and a maximum amount corresponding to up to four times the minimum the amount of the fine, taking into account the maximum limits provided for by the General Regime of Tax Offenses.”
The diploma issued on Tuesday, which is only effective from July 1, 2024, also determines that “if the offenses under this law are committed by the same agent, in the same month, using the same vehicle and in of the same road infrastructure, the maximum amount of the fine corresponds to the amount of one administrative offense”, and “expenses exceeding the expenses corresponding to one administrative offense cannot be recovered”.
