This Monday afternoon, a homeless man was sentenced to 10 years and one month by the court of São João Novo in Porto for the stone-killing of Carlos Rocha in Porto.
The attack took place on Rua da Firmeza in August 2022. The 63-year-old victim tried to defend a 29-year-old tourist who was threatened and abused by the defendants.
Carlos Rocha tried to intercede for the woman, but within a minute he was subjected to brutal attacks on various parts of the body. As a result, he received serious head injuries and suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.
The aggressor fled the scene, but shortly thereafter was arrested, already at the scene of the crime, by PSP officers in Porto. The man was then handed over to the judicial police. The victim died the next day at the Santo António hospital in the city of Porto.
The defendant was convicted of crimes of murder and menace. The man was also sentenced to pay compensation to the family of Carlos Rocha in the amount of 120,000 euros.
