Tensions in Zaporozhye after reports of a terrorist attack

Russia and Ukraine exchanged accusations on Tuesday over alleged plans to blow up the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Europe’s largest, which is currently held by Russian forces. However, experts from the IAEA, the UN’s nuclear energy agency, said this Wednesday that they had no evidence of mines or explosives around the plant’s perimeter.

IAEA experts “inspected parts of the facilities, including areas around the perimeter of the huge cooling pool, finding no signs of mines or explosives,” the IAEA said, stressing, however, that it needs access to all buildings at the station. .

However, Russia denied reports that Chinese President Xi Jinping, during his visit to Moscow in March, personally warned Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin not to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. “I do not confirm this,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, considering the news on the topic “pure fiction.”
