The National Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SNPVAC) said on Thursday it feels cheated and used because it believes there are “omissions and lies” in the preliminary report of the TAP commission of inquiry that are disrespectful to workers.
“After the first reading of the preliminary report of the commission of inquiry before the TAP, GPVAK regrets that this document is so light, lacking in rigor, omissions and lies that are nothing more than disrespect for the TAP crew. flight attendants, TAP group workers, Portuguese and taxpayers,” said the statement sent to members, to which Lusa had access.
The SNPVAC board also said it feels “cheated and taken advantage of” given that the six and a half pages of the 180-page report on the restructuring plan, which included a collective layoff and a 25% pay cut, do not reflect what was said on the hearings of the Commission of Inquiry.
“We do not understand how it is possible not to include in this report the official information that Brussels [Comissão Europeia] proposed and defended other solutions — less harsh and costly for the TAP group workers, as part of the negotiations on the restructuring plan,” the cabin crew union said in a statement.
The structure recalled that at its hearings on April 26, a document was submitted to the commission of inquiry, which contains a proposal from the European Commission to the government and administration of the TAR to take “a different kind of measures to compensate for draconian cuts.” which were inflicted on TAP workers.
“Today we know that the government chose to cut the wages of workers when it could alleviate this situation with other alternatives proposed by Brussels. […] How is it that such important information about the life of the workers’ group over the past three years is not relevant to this report?” the union said, given that the document prepared by Socialist MP Ana Paula Bernardo, presented on Tuesday, confirms “fears and criticism expressed by SNPVAC management” during the hearing on the request: “there was a lot of politics and little TAP.”
