On Wednesday, searches were carried out at the home of former PSD President Rui Rio. Rio is suspected of hiring advisers and paying through the Assembly of the Republic (AR). The Judicial Police (JP) also raided the SDP national headquarters, the SDP headquarters, the SDP district headquarters in Porto, and the homes of Deputy Hugo Carneiro and Florbela Guedes, a longtime adviser to Rui Rio.
As found out cmThe complaint that gave rise to the searches of the SP came from SDP officials, and the investigation lasted for a year. Suspicions of illegal financing are at stake. Rui Rio is suspected of having hired advisers and paid them with funds from the Assembly of the Republic. The advisers were AR employees, but Rui Rio distracted them by claiming they were helping the party.
The former SDP chairman appeared on the balcony this morning, while the SP was conducting house searches. “They will find out about everything I stole. I’m afraid,” Rui Rio said ironically in response to a question from journalists.
The PSD confirmed the searches at the national headquarters and the headquarters of the Porto district, the statement said.
According to the joint venture, about 100 inspectors and several experts in the field of information technology and finance participated in the search. “The investigation will continue with a full verification of the evidence obtained in order to fully clarify the facts that are the subject of the investigation,” the report says.
