The fire that broke out this Wednesday afternoon in San Marcos da Serra, Silves, is under control. The flames, which began at 15:43, covered the territory of the bush and pine forest. Rail service between Lisbon and the Algarve was discontinued but has now been restored.
Combat means are also being strengthened – already 196 firefighters, who are supported by 53 vehicles. Eight aircraft supplied to the Santa Clara Dam were able to cope with the most dangerous fire.
The flames led to the conditioning of the 267 national road that connects San Marcos da Serra with the municipality of Monchique.
A few scattered houses are in the path of the fire, but San Marcos da Serra and Silves are still far from an active front.
The perceived wind continues to worry the authorities.
