Twelve new bodies were discovered this Monday in Shakahol Forest, where an evangelical extreme fasting sect had gathered, raising the death toll in the horrific scandal that rocked Kenya to 403, a regional official said.
“Today, our forensic team managed to exhume 12 bodies,” said Rhoda Onyancha, mayor of the coastal region, in a message sent to AFP, citing a total of 403 deaths.
Authorities expect the death toll to rise as searches continue for mass graves in a vast patch of bush off the coast of Kenya, nearly three months after the first victims of what has been called the Shakahol “forest massacre” were discovered.
