The 34-year-old is suspected of defrauding several people in a scheme to solicit investors for mushroom franchise companies, Judicial Police (PJ) Guarda said Tuesday.
The joint venture said in a statement that the man was arrested as a result of an investigation that has been ongoing since 2022 and has helped clarify the contours of qualified fraud and malicious insolvency.
“The scheme involved bringing in investors, setting up franchises for a company set up by the suspect that produces mushrooms, and included a promise, which was never kept, to provide training and equipment,” he explained.
According to the JV, with this scheme or with a request for direct investment in his company, he would have deceived several people/investors not yet fully qualified, illegally enriching themselves by several thousand euros, which at the moment is about 100 thousand euros. and later declared insolvent.
Household and out-of-house searches were carried out, as a result of which computer equipment and documentation related to illegal activities were seized.
The detainee was brought to the competent judicial authorities and a coercive measure was applied to him in the form of a material guarantee in the amount of 50,000 euros and an obligation to hand over his passport.
