More than 170 firefighters and the air force are fighting five fires in Caldas da Rainha.

A source from the Western Sub-Regional Command told the Agência Lusa news agency that five active fires in the municipality of Caldas da Rainha in the district of Leiria mobilized 173 firefighters and the air force at 20:00.

“From about 13:00, fires break out in various places in the municipality, and five fires are currently active,” Carlos Silva, commander of the western subregion, told Lusa.

The woodland fire in Aguas Santas, at one of the entrances to the city of Caldas da Rainha, is a fire that “involved more resources”, with 95 operational, 26 ground resources and an air resource extinguishing the flames, after “Some the operatives were distracted by other incidents, which, oddly enough, break out in several places, ”the commander said.

Carlos Silva explained that the first of the fires that emerged in Quinta dos Bugalhos is already “in the process of being completed, but 12 operators and three vehicles remain on site,” explained Carlos Silva, adding that “one of the two fires in Casais da Serralheira” in the district of Coto, where 21 firefighters and six vehicles are still not involved.

In Espineira, Serra do Boro district, 30 operatives and nine vehicles are fighting a fire that has been raging since 18:40 and which, according to Carlos Silva, “has already been resolved.”

The last fire on record started at 7:20 p.m. in the city of Torre in the Salir de Matos district and is being fought by 32 firefighters supported by seven vehicles.
