The tax authorities received 4,618 reports of possible tax fraud in 2022, almost double the number in 2021, and about half related to non-reporting of income, according to the annual report on combating tax and customs fraud and tax evasion.
The analysis of denunciations or reports concerning possible tax offenses is one of the sources of information for determining the tax position of taxpayers and, according to the Tributary and Customs Administration (AT), “a teller of fraud trends.”
According to this annual report, of the 4,618 complaints and reports received by the Tax Fraud Office in 2022, 2,502 came from other government agencies and 2,116 from outside organizations, including individuals.
On the other hand, the analysis of complaints showed that almost half (48%) were related to loss of income, and another 5% of violations were related to rental and accommodation services.
The weight of these violations has decreased compared to 2021, when 2,385 complaints were received, of which 57% were related to loss of income and 17% to violations in rental and accommodation services.
