Taliban carry out first public execution since returning to power in Afghanistan

The Taliban carried out what is believed to be their first execution since taking power in Afghanistan last year.

A Taliban spokesman admitted that the deceased’s name was Tajmir and that the related execution took place in a crowded sports stadium in southwestern Farah province after he confessed to committing the murder. According to information published BBC news🇧🇷

The execution took place this Wednesday and reflects the return of the extremist group to an extremist interpretation of Sharia law, a set of Islamic laws based on the Koran and dictating the rules of conduct for Muslims. The executed man lived in the province of Herat and allegedly stabbed a man named Mustafa about five years ago. Tajmir was convicted by three Taliban courts and his sentence was upheld.

The execution took place a few weeks after the Taliban fully implemented sharia law in the country. Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada has demanded that Afghan courts impose harsh penalties, including public executions, stoning and amputations. The crimes in which these new measures apply were determined by an extremist group, according to BBC news🇧🇷
