Two Portuguese-led consortiums are competing for Porto’s Ruby Metro Line.

Two consortiums led by Portuguese companies have submitted proposals for the construction of the Ruby Line of the Porto Metro. The largest public tender for the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) was launched this Friday, which includes a new bridge across the Douro.

According to Metro do Porto, “The bidding jury will begin to review these two proposals in order to be able to present an appropriate assessment report and a proposal for the award of work to the Board of Directors of Metro do Porto, CA.”

“The company intends to start operations in 2023 with the new Linha Rubi operational in 2026,” says the carrier, chaired by Thiago Braga.

Metro do Porto recalls that the Ruby Line project, which includes the construction of a new bridge over the Douro River, which will be called Ponte D. Antónia Ferreira, “A Ferreirinha”, “is the largest public tender opened under the PRR.”

The construction of the Casa da Música-Santo Ovidio link and the second line crossing from Gaia represents a global investment of 435 million euros and will be completed in just over three years.

On Monday, Metro do Porto also announced an open tender for the supervision of the contract, which has a budget of 18.5 million euros.

In Gaia, the scheduled stations on the Rubi line are Santo Ovidio, Soares dos Reis, Devexas, Rotunda, Kandal and Arrábida, and in Porto, Campo Alegre and Casa da Musica.

At Santo Ovidio, the Rubi line (H) will connect to the yellow line (D), while at Casa da Música there will be connections to the general trunk lines (A, B, C, E, F) and the future pink line. Line (G).

There will also be train connections at Devezas station (Vila Nova de Gaia) and at the future high-speed station at Santo Ovidio, also in Gaia.
