The navy escorted the passage of the Russian ship Kildin off the Portuguese mainland, a statement released today said.
“This morning, NRP Figueira da Foz escorted and controlled the Russian ship Kildin, which was in transit off the mainland coast of Portugal,” the armed forces said.
The Navy recalled that “surveillance of Russian naval units is related to the protection of national interests and the exercise of state power at sea” and that it “also contributes to Portugal’s commitment to the Alliance’s collective efforts to maintain maritime awareness.”
The Portuguese navy has recently escorted several Russian ships on their passage off the coast of Portugal.
