The House of Monsana assured this Monday that water supplies to three parishes were restored on Sunday late in the day, and attributed the lack of water since Tuesday to overconsumption and faulty pipelines.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, Agostinho Correia, councilor for municipal services and the environment of Câmara de Monsan in the Viana do Castelo area, clarified that taps in Longos Vales, Bela and Troviscoso were leaking water again on Sunday. from 19:00 to 20:00.
The lack of water began on Tuesday, late afternoon, in Longos Vales and Bela. On Saturday it affected Troviscoso.
“Our problem is not lack of water, but overconsumption. On Thursday, we noticed that there was a decrease in sediment flow in the higher parts of Longos Vales and Bela counties. On Friday, we adjusted another pump and we started pumping 85 cubic meters of water per hour into the tanks,” explained Agostinho Correia.
According to the person in charge, “during the day there was still some causal relationship in the sediments, but at night, excessive consumption, for example to fill swimming pools, made it difficult for water to reach higher areas.” parishes.
“At the end of the day, the water was still at a slight pressure, but since the consumption was mostly at night, when they left the pools to fill, the deposits were causeless,” he said.
Agostinho Correia added that “a pipe rupture was also found under the São Bento de Bela bridge, which had been repaired in the meantime.”
The Social Democrat deputy stressed that “since the beginning of the month, water consumption has increased sharply” due to the arrival of emigrants, visitors and tourists.
Agostinho Correia said that only at the end of the month, after measuring water consumption, he realizes the volume of consumption for this period.
Luce Rosa Moreira, a resident of Couto, Longos Vales parish, confirmed that the water supply was back to normal on Sunday afternoon.
“There was no water in my house on Tuesday, it came back on Saturday, then the taps stopped working and it came back on Sunday night. Let’s see if it continues like this,” he said.
Rosa Moreira criticized the “lack of a concrete answer from the municipal services” regarding the reason for the lack of water and how to solve the problem.
“We were told that the water came today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, and at my house Tuesday is already eight days old, we live in uncertainty, not being able to organize life. Nothing can be done without water,” he said.
Rosa Moreira does not accept that the increase in water consumption is an excuse for what happened.
“There have been immigrants for many years. So Monsao is not ready to accept twice or three times the population? So next year we will have the same problem. In addition, no one fills the pool in August. It fills up in May or June. The pools are not filled every day,” he said.
