Eight foreign nationals aged between 23 and 35 were arrested on Monday for crimes such as kidnapping, extortion, forgery, coercion, threats and physical assault. According to the Judicial Police (PJ), the victim, a 35-year-old man residing in France and on his way to Portugal, was abducted from the moment he entered the country.
The arrests took place in Lisbon following a complaint from a relative of the victim, according to PJ. The man was not allowed to leave the car in which he was traveling.
The victim hired transport to travel to the country, for which he initially paid a certain amount. However, at some point in the trip, a new payment was required. Although the person paid the required amount, he was again not allowed to leave the vehicle and continued on his way to Lisbon.
“Upon her arrival in Lisbon, she was kidnapped and taken to the Florestal de Monsanto park, where she was repeatedly attacked and threatened by various suspects while they demanded new payments,” explains PJ.
After the intervention of an authoritative source, it was possible to save the victim and detain the attackers.
The detainees will be present at the first judicial interrogation for the application of coercive measures that they deem appropriate.
