Maritime Police (PM) rescued 49 migrants in the Mediterranean off the Italian island of Pantelleria, the National Maritime Authority said in a statement this Thursday.
On Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning, the prime minister’s gunmen in Italy intercepted two boats carrying a total of 49 people, including 20 children and a woman.
The first warning came at 20:15 on Wednesday when the Portuguese prime minister intercepted a boat carrying 20 migrants (seven children, one woman and 12 men) who “showed signs of dehydration and fatigue”, most of whom were without vests. saves lives.
After rescuing people “for security reasons” they were transported to the port of Pantelleria, where the Italian authorities were waiting for them.
Early this Thursday morning, the Prime Minister rescued 29 migrants, including 13 minors, from another ship, also off Pantelleria, who were also taken to the island’s port.
Since June, the NCIS has rescued 282 migrants as part of Operation Themis by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex).
Operation Themis aims to assist Italy in surveillance of the border in the Central Mediterranean.
