The President of the Republic rejected this Sunday when commenting on the PSD’s proposal for a tax cut, but warned that the issue is inevitable with the upcoming discussion of the state budget, and even more so with the European elections in 2024.
“I will not comment on party positions, what I said was very general (…). When you move on to the state budget, which, so to speak, is already tomorrow, it becomes obvious, and taxes are of fundamental importance. As we approach the European Parliament elections, with eight months to go, the inevitable thing to deal with is taxes,” said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa upon arriving in Warsaw on a two-day country visit that includes a meeting with a Polish colleague.
The Head of State considered that “there is nothing to interfere” in the debates that are taking place between the parties and in the Assembly of the Republic, but considered that it is necessary to “look in the context of a country in which there are many families with many restrictions that remain” and “the international situation, which is very uncertain.”
