The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) announced this Saturday the opening of 11 criminal cases for price speculation in the sale of food and non-food items in supermarkets and hypermarkets.
In recent weeks, the ASAE has conducted a nationwide inspection operation targeting the food retail chain to check for illegal profit-making practices (speculation) in the sale of food and non-food products.
“According to the results of the case, 270 economic entities were checked, 11 criminal cases were initiated, of which 10 were for committing crimes of price speculation (anti-economic crimes) in food products, namely cereals, canned food, fruits, water. , among other things, with price fluctuations of up to 30% in relation to the price declared and provided to the consumer and the offense of usurpation of a protected designation of origin (DOP),” the body said in a statement.
