According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), all areas of the Portuguese mainland and the Madeira archipelago will be at very high risk of exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV).
On Wednesday, the risk will remain very high on the mainland and in the Madeira archipelago.
For the Azores, IPMA forecasts high levels for this Tuesday and Wednesday for all islands.
The UV radiation scale has five levels, ranging from extreme to low risk.
For extreme risk regions, IPMA recommends avoiding sun exposure as much as possible.
For very high-risk regions, IPMA recommends the use of UV-blocking sunglasses, a hat, a T-shirt, an umbrella, sunscreen, and keeping children out of the sun.
