Youth hostels increase the placement of university students by about 9%

Nineteen youth hostels will increase student accommodation by about 9% as part of the National Higher Education Student Placement Plan, the office of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports said this Wednesday.

According to the office of João Paulo Correia, the number of available rooms and beds is increasing in the apartments of Abrantes, Almada, Aveiro, Beja, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Guimarães, Lisbon Center, Lisbon Parque das Nations, Oeiras, Ponte di Lima, Portimão, Porto, Viana do Castelo and Vila Nova de Cerveira.

“The monthly room rate varies from 200 to 300 euros per person (depending on the room and type) in double or multi-bed rooms and includes breakfast, Wi-Fi, daily cleaning, change of bed linen and towels weekly. and use of the dorm kitchen,” he adds.

A 10% discount on the European Youth Card for double rooms and 20% for triple rooms can be applied to prices, according to the Office of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports.

“Scholarship students can have the equivalent of a month’s discount to use in a youth hostel chain voucher,” he adds.

The Movijovem program is part of the National Higher Education Adaptation Plan, which aims to support young people entering higher education.

The announcement of increased student accommodation in youth hostels comes as it became known that the average price of a student room in Lisbon and Porto exceeds 400 euros and that private offers available cover less than 10% of the young people currently accommodated in universities. and polytechnics of these cities.
