‘If we don’t get drunk’: Georgia partner Meloni charged with blaming rape victims

Andrea Giambruno, An associate of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been charged with blaming the victim following allegations of rape made this Monday on his TV show. “Diario del Giorno” at the Rete 4 trading station. According to Reuters, the comment came after reports of a gang rape of a young woman in Palermo.

“If we go dancing, we have every right to get drunk – there should be no misunderstandings and no problems – but if we don’t get drunk and lose our minds, we can also avoid certain problems and encounters with the wolf,” the journalist said.

Opposition politicians condemned the comments. Cecilia D’Elia, a Democratic senator, was one of them: “I tell Giambruno that boys should be raised to be respectful, not girls should be taught to be careful. Teach them (men) the value of consent, teach girls to be careful instead.”

In your defense Andrea Giambruno stated that his comments were taken out of context to create a “surreal” controversy.

“I didn’t say that men have the right to rape drunken women,” a Corriere della Sera journalist assured, saying that some politicians “took advantage of a false headline.”

“I’m being asked to be suspended, but for what? Because I advised young people not to take drugs?” he stressed.
