UNICEF warned this Wednesday of the risks faced by 7 million children in Ukraine due to difficulty accessing electricity during the winter, when most Ukrainians want to stay at home, according to the UN.
Lack of access to electricity prevents Ukrainian children from enduring extreme cold, when temperatures in the country can drop below -20ºC, hinders access to online learning – the only access many children have to education, given the destruction of schools – and hinders the operation of medical facilities and water systems, according to a note released this Wednesday by UNICEF.
“Millions of children are going through a harsh and cold winter without knowing when they might have a moment of relief,” said Katherine Russell, Executive Director of UNICEF.
