The Armed Forces, in partnership with the University of Coimbra, will launch an innovative course “Intervention in the context of emergency and disaster”, intended “for all those who are usually present in emergency and catastrophic situations, such as doctors, nurses, psychologists, engineers, elements of the Armed Forces, civil protection, geographers, firefighters, mayors and journalists,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces (EMGFA) said this Wednesday.
The course will take place at the Military Medical Training, Training and Research Unit (UEFISM) Simulation Center in Coimbra and will consist of theoretical and practical components, teaching how to respond to “situations of extreme complexity, emotional stress and urgency, caused either by natural disasters, or human actions,” the EMGFA said in a statement. This simulation center will provide “theoretical and practical training in the initial, pre-hospital approach aimed at professionals from different fields in order to better operate in disaster and emergency scenarios.”
In addition to the EMGFA and the University of Coimbra, other partners are the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra (CHUC) and the Lusitanian Trauma and Surgical Emergency Association (ALTEC).
