Moscow and Kyiv again exchanged drone strikes

Russia said it shot down three Ukrainian drones early this Thursday that were trying to attack Moscow and the border region of Rostov, while Ukraine said it registered a new attack on port infrastructure in the Odessa region.

The head of the Military Administration of the Odessa region, Oleg Kiper, said that the Ukrainian Air Force managed to shoot down 25 of the 33 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Russia at night against the regions of Odessa (south) and Sumi (northeast).

Oleg Kiper stressed that “this is the fourth attack in the last five days on the Izmail district” of Odessa, where Ukrainian river ports on the Danube are located, through which Ukraine exports grain.

The three-hour attack caused “damage to civilian and port infrastructure in several areas.” [incluindo] bunker and administration building,” with one person slightly injured, Kiper said on the messaging platform Telegram.

In recent weeks, Russian troops have stepped up shelling of the port areas of the Ukrainian Odessa region, striking at the cities of Izmail and Reni.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that around midnight (22:00 on Wednesday in Lisbon) “an attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack using three unmanned aerial vehicles against objects on the territory of the Russian Federation was interrupted.” .

The ministry’s statement explains that air defense systems destroyed three Ukrainian drones, two of them over Rostov, which borders the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, and one over the Ramensky district of the Moscow region.

The Rostov governor said at least one person was injured after the wreckage of one of two drones shot down by Russian air defenses landed in the city of Rostov-on-Don.

In a message published on Telegram, Vasily Golubev explained that air defense systems were activated around 03:00 (01:00 Lisbon time), shooting down two unmanned aerial vehicles.

One of the drones landed in the western suburbs of Rostov-on-Don, the second in the city center, injuring one person who refused hospitalization, as well as damaging several vehicles and the facades of three buildings, Golubev said.

On the contrary, the Dutch news agency BNO News assured that the second drone was shot down near the strategic military defense installations of southern Russia.

In a post on social network X (formerly Twitter), BNO News released video footage of the device exploding on impact with the ground following a rollover.

In addition, the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said at dawn this Thursday that air defense systems “prevented an attempted attack using a drone in Moscow,” in the urban district of Ramensky, without recording casualties and destruction on the spot. debris fell.

Ukraine has stepped up attacks in the Black Sea, Crimea and against Moscow, using mostly drones that have already caused serious damage, such as the Russian warship Olenogorsky Gornyak and the Kerch Bridge connecting the Crimean peninsula to the mainland from Russia.
