Augusta Souza wore a t-shirt with a picture of her son. Entering Porto’s criminal court this Wednesday, he first encountered some of those accused of the death of Igor Silva and broke down in tears. She watched the instructive discussions of the process, always worried. This stage was requested by four defendants: Carlos “Jonai”, Paulo “Chanfra”, Sergio Machado and Rui “Dentinho”, as well as Igor’s mother. The suspects claim they should not be tried for the death, which occurred in May 2022 at the FC Porto title celebration next to the Dragão stadium. Augusta, on the other hand, wants Marco Gonçalves’ wife and daughter, known as “The Ears”, also to answer for the murder. “I believe that justice will prevail,” said Augusta, who was under police protection.
Prosecutor asks to try 8 defendants already charged with murder
Despite a strong police apparatus, there were death threats and moments of tension between the “Ears” family of Superdragons and Igor’s friends. The prosecutor argued that the charge should be upheld and that only eight defendants, already charged with a crime, should stand trial. Among them are Marco, son of Renato and son-in-law of Paulo “Chanfra”. All three are arrested. Renato will inflict 18 stab wounds on 26-year-old Igor. The crime occurred after several months of conflicts between the victim and the Orelkhas family.
Nelson Souza, a lawyer for Igor’s family, presented arguments against the wife and daughter of “Orelhas”. “They call, they all start and hinder the provision of assistance to Igor. Is there really no involvement in the murder?” he asks. Poliana Ribeiro, who is defending the two women, considered the request “ludicrous”. The decision will be communicated to lawyers.
